Suggested Execution:

Round 1:

Learn/Perform:

T: “Today we are going to build a clock and the first thing we need is to create a frame.” Class will then stand in a circle. Introduce the song and choreography:

Teacher talk: This is a circle dance. Class will march clockwise in the circle as they sing.

“Tick tock goes the clock” (march dramatically)

“Tie your shoes pull up your socks” (Rolling motion with hands, then pretend to pull up socks)

“Watching, waiting (Gesture like your are looking for something, holding hand above eyes.)

“Now it’s time to sing like me” (wave hands and drop to the ground)

Teacher talk: Practice a couple times as needed before adding the next layer.

T: “So we’ve now built the frame for our clock. Look at the clock on the wall, what does it have that our clock doesn’t?”
S: “Hands.”
T: “Good, so this time I’m gonna be the hands or our clock.”

T stands in middle with arms out like a clock, moving clock wise to the song.
This time, when the song stops, T improvises a couple variations of the notes Sol-Mi and invites Students to echo.

Teacher talk: Next select a student to stand in the middle to be the arms of the clock. But this time the student their hands land on is the one who improvises. They then get to be in the middle for the next round. Feel free to experiment with this one. The execution has varied but the kids always to have a good time.

Bonus Activity 1:

If you have Orf instruments, a fun bonus activity for the following week is to set up Orf marimbas in the circle at 4 points: “12,” “3,” “6,” “9,” (graphics provided). Set the instruments with only the notes ‘so’ and ‘mi’ and students can take turns keep the pulse on the instruments as you play.
